Over and over in the Bible, we see the power of the Lord’s calling. We see it when Jesus called his disciples to follow Him and they immediately did, without asking any questions. We see it when Mary obediently carried and birthed the Savior, despite the societal shame and relational troubles it brought her. We see it when Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus where he left temporarily blind and forever changed. Over and over, we see these stories of people who get to experience the living God and leave different. It truly is a beautiful thing that God uses everyday people to do work fit for a king. He trusts us with some really powerful tasks because, well, He made us for the specific things that He calls us to.

I’ve always found it humbling that the God of the universe, of heaven and earth, of all the stars and the moons and everything in between, would take the time to open doors for me personally. This would be one of those times for me. Since announcing my gap year a little over a month ago, the support I have received has really left me sort of speechless. It is a really powerful feeling when people choose to support you through kind words or financial gifts or encouragement. For that, I say thank you because I don’t know if I would be as excited or encouraged about this journey as I am right now without all that support.

I think about what will happen come September every day, and the more I think about it, the more I realize I have no idea what to expect. Sure, I know some logistical things like the fact that I will likely be eating rice and beans for three meals a day or that I will be sleeping in a tent more times than not, but as far as what I will experience, I’m only slightly above clueless. I don’t know what to expect, however, I am expectant that the Lord will move in undeniable ways in me and in those around me. I believe that His hand is over this whole journey, and I am unbelievably excited for what His plans are for it.

  1. This is awesome, Lucy! I’m looking forward to following your journey as you share your light with the world!

Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. -Matthew 5:15-16

  2. Slightly above clueless and expectant is a great place to be. We look forward to meeting you in September and in the meantime will be praying for you.

  3. I am so proud of you Lucy! I know God will use your big heart and fun-loving spirit to build His kingdom! Love you!

  4. I am so proud of you stepping out in faith to serve and grow in this way. I know you’ll have an amazing year!
