Hi friends ! I asked for questions on my instagram (which I post on way more than here so if you want to hear more follow me there @lucyrickers.jpg) and these were what was asked:)

Do you miss home? How do you deal with that?

I have found that homesickness comes in waves and can hit you like a truck in the most random times. If there’s a solution I haven’t found it yet, but I’ve learned that repeating to myself the phrase, “life will never be like this again” makes homesickness easier to stomach. I believe gratitude can and is a weapon against any type of sadness, and homesickness absolutely falls into that category.

Where have you seen yourself grow the most since the beginning?

Identity!! Something I hope I never stop growing in! I am a bold daughter of the King and it’s about time that I’ve started to live like it.

What’s your favorite food you have eaten in Guate?

Pepian! My team made the sweetest friend in one of the villages who invited us over for lunch one Saturday. She cooked us pepian, a soup like dish with vegetables, chicken, and of course tortillas. It was not only delicious, but incredibly kind of her. Guatemalans are a whole new level of hospitable, and I am counting my blessings to have been on the receiving end of that so often here.

What does a day of ministry look like?

Most often, I get to work at a school that teaches English to Guatemalan people (and I love it btw). We have a few classes a day and are at the school from 9-5 everyday teaching and helping with random tasks around the property.

What has the Lord been teaching you?

This week it’s been a lot about rest! I’m a very go go go kind of person and it is hard for me to say no to fun plans in order to rest. I’ve been noticing the pattern that when I don’t sabbath intentionally, I find that it bites me in the butt more often then it doesn’t. At the end of the day, rest for me is just spending time in the presence of God and letting Him fill my cup. It’s sweet and life-giving and necessary.

What is the best and worst part about living with so many people?

Community living eek! The hardest part is that it seems like there is rarely an opportunity to just be by yourself without multiple other people in the room, and that got old about month 1. As challenging as it is, it has also given me a chance to practice seeking silence and solitude even when it isn’t the most natural or convenient. The best part is constantly being encouraged and loved by so many people. Without a doubt, I will miss the messy spaces and lack of personal space two months from now. I love you Gap I!

When are you coming home?

May 29:)

How do you make tough decisions?

This is something I’m currently learning and figuring out, but God has been teaching me a lot in it so here is what I’ve learned! For people who are following Jesus, it would be much easier if He could just speak aloud the option that is best for us, but most of the time that just isn’t how He speaks. Nevertheless, He is still speaking just as much and when we ask for guidance He is free to give it (James 1:5) I’ve learned to change my prayers from “God please work in this” to “Lord, please give me eyes to see where you are working in this. Increase my awareness of your voice and the way you are trying to show yourself to me”. I also have been learning that God’s voice is more than just words but can be a gut feeling, or butterflies at the right time, or a dream that is just extra vivid. If you look for God in everything you will find God in everything! And also, a freeing truth is that sure, sometimes the Lord calls you somewhere specifically, but other times (I’d even argue more often) He will open multiple doors and promise to be faithful wherever you choose to go. So walk in freedom and just rest in the truth that He is sovereign and you literally cannot mess up His plan. You are human and He is all-powerful, it’s so freeing.

Thanks for tuning in! If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to me personally or leave a comment on this post and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as I can.

    Love these and YOU!
Yes, identity. Knowing and remembering Who you are in Christ to boldly step in love. Thank you for being honest about homesickness, community – finding solitude and silence, and how essential that is.
